BMHA AWARDS
Each season, Burnaby Minor Hockey Association recognizes the players, officials, coaches, managers and volunteers who help make our association a positive, respectful and rewarding place to play.
Some awards are selected by the association, while others are presented based on nominations received from our membership.
We encourage you to take a moment to recognize someone who made a difference this season.
Nomination Deadline - March 22, 2026
Anyone may submit a nomination — including parents, players, coaches, volunteers and members of the community.
Please submit a separate nomination form for each award category - Player, Goaltender & Volunteer.
PLAYER & GOALTENDER AWARDS
ALFRED BALFRY MEMORIAL AWARD – For Team Play, Character, Sportsmanship & Hockey Ability
This award is presented to two (2) graduating Grade 12 players - one from a C/House team and one from an A/Rep team - who demonstrate strong team values, character, sportsmanship, and hockey ability, with eligible recipients receiving a $1,000 bursary upon post-secondary enrollment.
GARY BOYLE MEMORIAL AWARD – For Sportsmanship, Character & Hockey Ability
This award is presented to a player who demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, strong character, and respect for the game.
TERRY MCLEAN MEMORIAL AWARD – For the Most Valuable House Goaltender
This award is presented to a C/House goaltender who has made a meaningful contribution to their team during the season, both on and off the ice and in games and practices.
MOST VALUABLE REP GOALTENDER
This award is presented to an A/Rep goaltender who has made a meaningful contribution to their team over the course of the season, both on and off the ice and in games and practices.
JACK GILROY AWARD - For the Most Outstanding U11C/Atom House Goaltender
This award is presented to a U11 C/House goaltender who has made a meaningful contribution to their team during the season, both on and off the ice and in games and practices
REFEREE/OFFICIATING AWARDS
REFEREE OF THE YEAR
This award recognizes an on-ice official for their professionalism and commitment to officiating throughout the season.
MOST IMPROVED OFFICIAL
This award recognizes an on-ice official who has demonstrated growth and development as an official over the course of the season.
VOLUNTEER AWARDS
PRESIDENT’S AWARD – For Outstanding Contribution
This award recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution in providing support to the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association President during the season.
DON BOYD MEMORIAL AWARD – For Service
This award is presented to a volunteer for their service and commitment to the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association.
TONY MARZITELLI MEMORIAL AWARD – Manager of the Year
This award is presented to a team manager for their extraordinary leadership, organization, and support of their team throughout the season.
SAFETY AWARD – In Memory of Kelly Miles - For Dedication In Making Our Game Safe For All
This award is presented to a team Hockey Canada Safety Person or Association volunteer for their dedication and extra efforts in making the game safer for all participants.
HOUSE COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD
This award is presented to a C/House coach for strong leadership and commitment to player development.
OUTSTANDING NEW COACH AWARD *NEW*
This award is presented to a head or assistant coach of a C/House or A/Rep team in their first one to three years of coaching who has made a positive early impact.
REP COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD
This award is presented to an A/Repcoach for strong leadership and commitment to player development.
TEAM AWARDS
FRED HUME MEMORIAL AWARD - For the Most Sportsmanlike Rep Team
This award recognizes the A/Rep team that best demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship, respect, and fair play throughout the season, as identified by the BMHA Awards Committee.
MOST SPORTSMANLIKE HOUSE TEAM
This award recognizes the C/House team that best demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship, respect, and fair play throughout the season, as identified by the BMHA Awards Committee.
