BMHA PROTOCOLS – UPDATED SEPT.13/21
BMHA has released updated protocols outlining interim rules for participation and rink entry requirements. They are also available in PDF format.
BMHA Interim Rules for Participation and Rink Entry Requirements – updated Sept. 13, 2021, effective immediately
As the BMHA Board continues to monitor conditions and follow all recommendations and requirements from the BC Provincial Health Officer, Hockey Canada, BC Hockey, ViaSport, PCAHA, Canlan, and the City of Burnaby, changes to the recommendations and requirements may often occur rapidly in these challenging and uncertain times.
BMHA is required to comply with the regulatory changes, and rules and procedures set by the venue providers. We ask that you bear with us as we try to develop our policies and procedures in an ever-changing environment.
Currently, BMHA Interim Rules for Participation (starting from September 13th) are:
- If your child has been directly exposed to someone, or has themselves tested positive for COVID-19:
- Do Not Come to the Rink
- Notify your Team Manager
- If your child is not feeling well or has COVID-19 symptoms:
- Do Not Come to the Rink
- Notify your Team Manager
- Monitor your child’s health
- Return to the Rink only when there are Zero Signs or Symptoms of COVID-19
- When at the rink:
- Spectators will now be allowed to enter the rink. See Facility Partner Requirements to enter.
- All Spectators are required to wear a mask while in the arena.
- All players, Team Officials, and volunteers must wear a mask when in the arena, except that players may go without a mask only while on the field of play (ice surface, bench, and penalty box) and when moving between the field of play and the change room in full gear.
- All coaches and volunteers must wear a mask when in the arena.
- It is highly recommended that all coaches and volunteers wear a mask on the field of play, particularly where participants under the eligible age of vaccination are present
- Volunteers are to socially distance from people not in their household.
- Always follow additional rules set by the arena facility and be prepared for changes.
- Sanitize your hands when entering and leaving the arena.
- If there is any reason to believe that you are at high risk of contracting COVID-19, please stay home to protect yourself.
Facility Partner Requirements to enter Arena
BMHA, its members and visiting teams must follow facility partner requirements to enter the arenas and whether/when proof of vaccination is required – see the province’s instructions for providing vaccination verification; Proof of vaccination and the BC Vaccine Card – Province of British Columbia (gov.bc.ca).
City of Burnaby Rinks
As of today, September 13, the City of Burnaby has confirmed that it no longer requires proof of vaccination for attendance (whether players, team officials or spectators) at minor hockey at their facilities. We understand that masks and appropriate social distancing are still required.
Canlan Arenas

– Canlan employees will be responsible for implementing the provinces vaccination verification process and/or additional processes that Canlan has set as requirements.
-There will be zero tolerance for abuse of Canlan employees/representatives.
-If an individual does not comply with Canlan requirements, they will be reported by Canlan to BMHA. BMHA will review and may issue suspensions.
