LIVE STREAMING

Why Live-Stream Hockey Games?

Live-streaming hockey games is a fantastic way to bring the excitement of BMHA games to a wider audience. With live-streaming, families, friends, and fans who can’t be there in person can stay connected to their players’ achievements and enjoy game highlights in real-time. It’s an easy way to grow the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association (BMHA) community and let everyone experience the thrill of the season.

Benefits of Live-Streaming

  • Accessibility for All
Family and friends who are out of town, abroad, or otherwise unable to attend games can stay connected, cheering on their loved ones and keeping up with all the action.
  • Enhanced Player Development

  • Increased Community Engagement
Sharing games online builds a stronger, more engaged fan base. BMHA members and the larger community can rally in support, celebrating the passion for hockey together.
  • Highlight Reels and Memories
Game footage from live-streams can be saved and edited into highlight reels, providing lasting memories for families and players alike.

GETTING STARTED

Equipment Needed

To live-stream a hockey game, you’ll need the following:

  • Smartphone (iOS or Android)
A smartphone is an ideal tool for capturing quality video and streaming directly to platforms like YouTube or Facebook Live.
  • Tripod and Phone Mount
A tripod keeps your phone steady for clear, professional-looking footage. For hockey games, a video tripod is recommended for easy panning and angle adjustments. Your phone attaches to the tripod with a mount—basic models work well, though steel or metal options offer longer-lasting durability.
  • Internet Connection
A stable Wi-Fi or cellular data connection is essential for smooth, uninterrupted streaming. The City of Burnaby rinks (Kensington, Bill Copeland, and Rosemary Brown) have strong Wi-Fi, which is recommended. Note that cellular reception is limited at Rosemary Brown Arena.

Software Setup

There are several free apps available for streaming, but two popular choices are Streamlabs and Prizm Live. For simplicity, this guide will focus on Streamlabs as it’s user-friendly and efficient.
