Plays of the month
Welcome to Burnaby Minor Hockey Association's Plays of the Month initiative! This exciting program is designed to celebrate the amazing skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship of our players while fostering engagement and pride within our BMHA community. Each month, we’ll spotlight the top 10 most outstanding plays as submitted by players, parents, and fans.
How it Works
- Submissions can be made by anyone in the BMHA community.
- There is no limit to the number of submissions for a single player.
- Submit your videos by the 7th day of each month for plays from the previous month.
- Ensure videos are clear and highlight the specific moment you wish to nominate.
- Click the button below to submit your play.
By submitting, you are giving BMHA permission to post the video to our social media accounts.

Plays of the Month is more than just a highlight reel. It’s an opportunity to:
- Celebrate our players: Recognize their hard work, talent, and dedication.

Top 10 Plays
Each month, the Top 10 Plays will be carefully selected and showcased on BMHA’s social media channels. This is your chance to see your favorite players and teams in the spotlight!
Judging Criteria
Skill-Based Criteria (5 pts)
- Execution of Skill
- Exceptional demonstration of hockey skills (e.g., passing, stickhandling, skating, shooting, or goaltending).
- Creativity in the play or sequence.
- Difficulty of Play
- Complexity of the play or move (e.g., dekes, precise passing, or challenging saves).
- Situational difficulty (e.g., under pressure, game-winning moment, etc.).
Impact-Based Criteria (5 pts)
- Team Contribution
- Showcases teamwork (e.g., assists, coordinated plays).
Contribution to a key moment in the game (e.g., leading to a goal or preventing one). - Clutch Factor
- How critical the play was to the outcome of the game.
- Was it a buzzer-beater goal, a game-saving stop, or an important turning point?
Engagement-Based Criteria (5 pts)
- Entertainment Value
- How exciting or thrilling the play is to watch.
- Crowd reaction or overall vibe of the play.
- Uniqueness
- Something that stands out or isn't commonly seen.
- Special or quirky moments (e.g., unexpected skill, playful interaction).
Bonus Points (5 pts)
- Sportsmanship
- Play highlights great sportsmanship or respect for the game.
Youthfulness Bonus - A young player showing impressive skill or effort for their age group.
- Streamed on the BMHA channel
- If the link sent is from the BMHA Live Stream channel
Rewards for Winners
To make things even more exciting, the players featured in the Top 10 plays will receive a $10 gift card. Winners can choose from one of the following options:
- Tim Hortons
- Starbucks
- Sports Chek
- McDonald’s
